However, it still has flats, an intersection semilattice, and faces. If A contains the degenerate hyperplane, then it has no regions because the complement is empty. Sometimes it is convenient to allow the degenerate hyperplane, which is the whole space S, to belong to an arrangement. P A ( y ) := ∑ B ( − 1 ) | B | y dim f ( B ), any linear form defining the generic hyperplane of the arrangement. The characteristic polynomial of A, written p A( y), can be defined by In general, when L( A) is a semilattice, there is an analogous matroid-like structure called a semimatroid, which is a generalization of a matroid (and has the same relationship to the intersection semilattice as does the matroid to the lattice in the lattice case), but is not a matroid if L( A) is not a lattice.įor a subset B of A, let us define f( B) := the intersection of the hyperplanes in B this is S if B is empty. When L( A) is a lattice, the matroid of A, written M( A), has A for its ground set and has rank function r( S) := codim( I), where S is any subset of A and I is the intersection of the hyperplanes in S. (This is why the semilattice must be ordered by reverse inclusion-rather than by inclusion, which might seem more natural but would not yield a geometric (semi)lattice.) If the arrangement is linear or projective, or if the intersection of all hyperplanes is nonempty, the intersection lattice is a geometric lattice. The intersection semilattice L( A) is a meet semilattice and more specifically is a geometric semilattice. If S is 3-dimensional one has an arrangement of planes.Ī hyperplane arrangement in space General theory The intersection semilattice and the matroid Historically, real arrangements of lines were the first arrangements investigated. If the whole space S is 2-dimensional, the hyperplanes are lines such an arrangement is often called an arrangement of lines. The intersection semilattice L( A) is partially ordered by reverse inclusion. These intersection subspaces of A are also called the flats of A. (excluding, in the affine case, the empty set). The intersection semilattice of A, written L( A), is the set of all subspaces that are obtained by intersecting some of the hyperplanes among these subspaces are S itself, all the individual hyperplanes, all intersections of pairs of hyperplanes, etc. One may ask how these properties are related to the arrangement and its intersection semilattice. Questions about a hyperplane arrangement A generally concern geometrical, topological, or other properties of the complement, M( A), which is the set that remains when the hyperplanes are removed from the whole space. In geometry and combinatorics, an arrangement of hyperplanes is an arrangement of a finite set A of hyperplanes in a linear, affine, or projective space S.

Not to mention it would be good to have an alternative to TMB just for benchmarking, checking, and testing. I haven’t used Julia but am certainly intrigued and I think that if Julia had similar functionality it would make an attractive alternative for cutting edge statistical model development. TMB is great, but there would be an undeniable elegance to doing the whole statistical analysis in a single programming language. But more importantly, TMB scales incredibly well to diverse mixed models beyond regressions, and has led to recent a surge in methods in ecology and related fields (e.g., spatial factor analysis, state-space population dynamics, life history theory, and especially spatio-temporal models). Per the previously linked thread, it’s been used widely in glmmTMB. See the adcomp github repo tutorial for a flavor of the syntax and user experience. TMB then does the Laplace approximation to integrate out arbitrary subsets of parameters (typically random effects), declared in R after compilation, while automatically detecting and using sparsity for calculations (unlike INLA where sparsity must be known a priori). This has been discussed briefly on forums here before (see especially this discussion).įrom a user perspective the beauty of TMB is you simply write your objective function in a simple C++ template. I think the biggest hurdle for recruiting new users to Julia in our field (quantitative ecology/fisheries science) is that it needs to provide similar or improved functionality over the software package Template Model Builder. I was recently turned on to Julia from a nice talk by Sam (which is posted on discourse but not linked here). I’m writing to inquire about the current state of Julia with respect to the Laplace approximation for mixed effects statistical models. While coaching in Tiffin, Goff built a relationship with Todd Fox, who was the head coach at Tiffin Calvert prior to arriving at Norwalk in 2018. Head coach Gary Goff led Valdosta State to the NCAA Div. Smith enters a McNeese State program led by a first-year coach with local ties. Then I had three phone calls over the next two days." "I had to ask myself, 'did I just trap myself to not play on a team?' Fortunately, the answer came within two hours, which is when the first school reached out. Thinking and watching others do it, I'm a walk-on kicker from Ohio State," he said. Still, Smith said it wasn't easy to go through with the process of entering his name into the transfer portal, which he did on April 30. As a walk-on trying to compete, you realize there is no competition." and when it finally came, it was like, 'OK, there's no point in me staying here.' They have their guys set and keep bringing in transfers. "And then they told me they were looking to bring in a USC transfer. "I was prepared and had come to terms with it - especially since I was the one nagging him to come back," he added. I was fully set to sit another year under him. "I tried to convince Noah to come back, which he did. "I love everyone on that coaching staff, and I was fine with the freshman coming in," Smith said. As a window onto the molecular basis of remodeling, we have performed a comparative analysis of single-cell transcriptome data from adult Zebrafish retina of wild-type and a P23H mutant rhodopsin model of RP. While many studies focus on regenerative or bionic therapies to restore vision, extensive remodeling of retinal cell types throughout the course of retinal degenerative diseases stands as a barrier for successful implementation of these strategies. A hallmark of these diseases is progressive structural and functional remodeling of the remaining retinal neurons as rod photoreceptors are lost. Inherited retinal degenerative diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) result in progressive loss of photoreceptors until an individual is completely blind. This transgenic fish will provide a useful model system to study rod photoreceptor regeneration and integration. There was a modest remodeling of bipolar and Müller glial cells. Adult fish displayed ongoing apoptotic cell death in the ONL and an abundance of proliferating cells, predominantly in the ONL. Adult fish displayed thinning of the outer nuclear layer (ONL) and loss of rod outer segments, but retained a single, sparse row of rods. Rods expressing the mutant rhodopsin formed very small or no outer segments and the mutant protein was delocalized over the entire cell. P23H transgenic fish expressed the transgene in rods from 3 days post fertilization onward. Adult and juvenile fish were examined by immunofluorescence, TUNEL and BrdU incorporation assays. We used Tol2 transgenesis to express mouse rhodopsin carrying the P23H mutation and an epitope tag in zebrafish rod photoreceptors. As a step toward investigating regenerative therapies, we developed a zebrafish model of Retinitis Pigmentosa that displays ongoing regeneration. Regenerative therapies offer some hope, but their development is challenged by the limited regenerative capacity of mammalian model systems. More than 1.5 million people suffer from Retinitis Pigmentosa, with many experiencing partial to complete vision loss. For years now it stands to provide users with greater security without compromising performance to noticeable limits. The latter represents great value in those scenarios, and as for Bitdefender Internet Security, it kind of falls between these two stools and gets a bit lost as such.Bitdefender has already accomplished itself as the top Ranked antivirus solution for Mac. In summary, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus will be just fine for many, unless you need a lot of devices – maybe across different platforms – covered, perhaps for your whole family, in which case Bitdefender Total Security is your best bet (opens in new tab). That’s because it provides coverage for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS hardware, plus on top of this, you get five devices supported minimum, and the 10-device plan has a deep discount (which you don’t see on the other two Bitdefender products, as mentioned). (Image credit: Bitdefender) (opens in new tab)Īlso, both Antivirus Plus and Internet Security only cover Windows PCs, so if you have a lot of devices across different platforms, including smartphones, then Bitdefender Total Security is the clear choice for you. However, one of the main strings added to the bow here is parental controls, and because Internet Security isn’t such great value for higher device requirements – like that of a family – it makes less sense overall, at least in that respect. As it doesn’t cost much more than Antivirus Plus in some cases, you may be tempted to push the boat out a bit and go for Internet Security instead – depending on how much you value its selection of extra features. Much the same is true of Bitdefender Internet Security, in terms of only applying discounts to one or three device plans. However, Antivirus Plus only offers big discounts on lower amounts of hardware (a single device, or three), with larger device numbers not benefiting from any price-cutting, and not having the same value proposition (at least given current pricing – and indeed historically, too, this has been the case). Now, this plan can cover up to 10 devices – indeed, all the Bitdefender plans mentioned here can – which is impressive on the face of it. The potential weak point with Antivirus Plus comes with device coverage. Indeed, Bitdefender’s most affordable subscription option packs a number of capabilities that many vendors reserve for their upper-tier plans. Many folks will have their needs fulfilled by Bitdefender Antivirus Plus (opens in new tab), which offers a lot of features for an entry-level product. (Image credit: Future) Which Bitdefender antivirus plan should I get? It also scores highly as a value proposition, given the overall quality and depth of coverage you’re getting here – we’ll discuss that further in the next section. That means you can protect not just Windows PCs, but Macs, and also Android and iOS mobile devices, so if you have lots of hardware – or your family does – across different platforms, then that could obviously be a major consideration.īitdefender Total Security also throws in anti-theft features and the ability to trace or remotely lock (or wipe) your device should it be stolen (or lost for that matter). The real selling point of Total Security is that it allows multi-platform coverage. With Bitdefender Total Security, you get the flagship security suite and it carries all of the features mentioned in the above two packages, plus it adds some PC maintenance tools - these are basic but it’s handy to have them integrated. There are some neat additions here, then, and Bitdefender Internet Security is not that much more expensive than Antivirus Plus (at least not with some subscriptions, given the current deals Bitdefender is offering). The spam filter is a strong effort and definite highlight, and the parental controls are similarly thorough, with those useful privacy extras including webcam and mic protection, and the ability to utilize secure (encrypted) file vaults. Namely a firewall, email spam filter and parental controls, along with some privacy tools. The mid-range Bitdefender plan is an internet security suite which has all the features of the above Antivirus Plus, but adds a few more into the mix. The single received repeat business on his major label debut, the Billboard Top 30 R&B album Acey Ducey, for Universal/Republic. With the Grammy-nominated duet, “Words,” David and long-time friend Arie continued their award-winning singing and songwriting partnership, this time for a radio hit that originally appeared in 2006 on his sophomore and final release for Brash, The Red Clay Chronicles. Not bad for a “street taught” singer, guitarist, and songwriter. With guitar, dry wit, and a voice that instantly reads sincere, David consistently toured the college and coffeehouse circuit on the strength of the universally received 3 Chords…project. A caller’s invitation to love becomes a standout tune on a Grammy-winning album with “Part of My Life” on India.Arie’s Acoustic Soul. A loving mama’s boy grows into the father he once despised. A phone call in the middle of the night becomes a serenade. The interiors and exteriors of regular life were acoustically elevated to high art on his debut, 3 Chords and The Truth. Even after David began touring the world as a background singer and co-writer for India.Arie, he never forgot the beauty of the ordinary.Īs conceived through David’s pen, there’s magic in the every day, an alchemy that Brash Music heard in 2004 when they signed him to his first record deal. Local fans soon came for an invitation to David’s musical sanctuary and suddenly the ordinary was extraordinary. Eventually, at the urging of friend India.Arie, the 23 year-old David finally picked up the guitar and…it felt like home. He helped form and briefly recorded with funk/rap outfit, El Pus, on their Virgin Records debut, Hoodlum Rock. For four years, David was an everyman: quietly writing lyrics, singing to himself, listening and learning from behind the studio boards, and beginning to nurture the seeds of a dream. Quickly learning the military wasn’t his bag, at 19, David left after one stint, moved to Atlanta, and entered trade school to become a sound engineer. So, the practical David entered the Army straight out of high school. Georgia’s son with the famously raspy voice never dreamed of becoming a singer, not with sangin’ kin who included members of the multi-platinum singing groups Xscape and Boyz II Men. Fans of “Georgia Peach” and “ATL Sunshine” know David’s Southern roots run deep. Digging deeper with every project, David continues to peel back layers of public identity, political chutzpah, and playa propaganda to use what lies beneath as the clay for something honest and real.Īnthony David’s third original studio album and debut release on Purpose Music Group/ E1, finds David culling inspiration not only from the headlines but also from the red Savannah soils of the singer’s birth home-from tea parties to magnolia makeouts. Heady stuff for an R&B album title, but the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Anthony David has never been the kind of soul artist to “speak loudly, but say nothing.” With David, the sage psalm aptly describes the ruminations of a seeker whose walk travels over roots, soul, blues, reggae and hip hop to unabashedly express the unexpressed in men’s souls, from the carnal and the provocative to the unsure and the vulnerable. “ As Above, So Below.” The ancient Hermetic saying from the legendary Emerald Tablet declares what is the above is from the below, and the below is from the above, and all these works of wonders are from the one (the source). The record will be offered in a 3 LP version simulating one of the concerts and a comprehensive box set featuring 58 songs and 14 humorous spoken word tracks that highlight Petty’s connection with his band and his fans from the stage. “We all feel this might be the highpoint of our time together as a group… It’s going to be hard to get us off this stage tonight.” The captivating sold-out performances were such a hit, the Heartbreakers were even nicknamed the “Fillmore House Band.” At the final show, Petty noted as he took the stage: The Fillmore was a laboratory for the band. I will always remember those nights with joy and inspiration.”- Mike Campbell The room and the crowd was spiritual… AND… we got to play with some amazing guests. The band was on fire, and we changed the setlist every night. “Playing the Fillmore in 1997 for a month was one of my favorite experiences as a musician in my whole life. Other standouts include extended versions of original tracks “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” and “It’s Good To Be King.” The collection also features special performances with The Byrds’ front man Roger McGuinn and blues legend John Lee Hooker. Highlights include Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” J.J. This album features more covers than originals, paying tribute to the artists and songs that shaped Petty’s love of music as he was growing up-before he became a legendary songwriter and performer in his own right. The shows at the Fillmore ended up being some of the most joyful, honest, inspirational and prolific experiences of the band’s career, creating a unique bond between the group and their fans. Pre-order Live at the Fillmore (1977) HERE It is because we are trying to place our love on those who do not fulfill our need for love. This is why there are so many divorces and breakups, and why there are so many heavy arguments at the family dinners. This is why we are never fully satisfied with the "love" of the physical world. It is what we each need in order to become fulfilled. Love is the "thing" of the spiritual realm. And what is the central "thing" of the spiritual realm? That one thing that we always seem to be reaching for, waiting for, hunting for as we look for our soul mate or gather together for our family dinners? It is love. Therefore the only things that will fulfill us are spiritual things. "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit." ( John 3:6)According to Jesus' message, we are each spiritual by nature. If the body is resuscitated the person comes back into the body and describes what they saw after they left the body. The spirit-person rises up over the body and looks down upon it following the death of the body in the hospital. It has been proven in numerous clinical death studies, clinical hypnosis and other scientific research. This is a scientific fact - that the spirit-person leaves the body. They do not reach the spirit-person who drives this physical body and leaves it after the physical body dies. In other words, the material things of this physical world do not reach us. Trying to become fulfilled by dressing them up well and feeding them is like a hungry car driver putting gas in the car and thinking that gas will satisfy his body's hunger. I cannot praise it enough. These physical bodies are temporary vehicles we drive. Tough, I just ** love ** my Toyota Landcruiser. I just checked out the earlier thread you attached, it seems you are not a fan of SUV’s. Did you check around for the price of the item in another dealer somewhere else ?Īnyway just be glad he wasn’t driving a Ferrari or a Rolls I figure they ** really ** screwed you on the price of that lens. Of course the car itself cost me $ 34,254.14 (taxes on cars are murder here) I was really pissed that I had to pay (wait for it…) This Mother-of-all-tailights is about twice the size of the one on the Honda CRV. Now my Toyota dealer only sells the complete assembly with Lens, plastic frame, lamp sockets, wiring harness, and even bulbs. When I heard the price I mentally used the same words you did, I felt even worse as I did it to my own car. I cracked the rear lamp cover on my 97 Toyota Landcruiser. The extra three wheel covers make excellent snack trays, BTW. Set of four cheap, silver-grey plastic wheel covers- $12.00, excluding tax. I bid a hearty “Good Day” to Smilin’ Import Car Dealer and skip over to nearest Wal-Mart. I make one further comment that the cost of cheap plastic wheel cover and full-size tire for this model are almost identical.ĭealer’s voice is now strained, hoarse, and raspy. I ask if this is a set of four, maybe I was misunderstood?ĭealer’s death grin becomes noticeably painful as he points out that this is per cover. Smilin’ Import Car Dealer’s smile turns into death grin. I pointed out to smilin’ Import Car Dealer that this was a plastic silver-grey Mazda wheel cover, not a wheel cover for the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Cost was a paltry $75.00, not counting sales tax. No problem, says smilin’ Import Car dealer. Skipped on over to the cool import dealership that we bought it from and asked for one neat, silver-grey wheel cover. My wife lost one wheel cover from her 97 Mazda Protege. I bought a new taillight for my pickup last year and the damn thing cost only $35. Instead I get to pay the dealer $45 for 10 minutes of work! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK! And no, he won’t let me install it myself. It’s not even a real car, it’s a fucking toy, and it’s going to cost me a shitload of money to fix the damn taillight!. The light itself costs ONE HUNDRED THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS and on top of that they estimate 1 HOUR of labor at 45 DOLLARS so including the taxes the whole bill will be TWO HUNDRED ONE DOLLARS AND 46 CENTS. My fault, I admit it, I was careless, I have to pay for it. And it put a little hole in the damn thing about the size of a dime. As I was backing into my space on Monday, I was a little bit careless and nicked his taillight with my mirror. Well, the taillights on the damn thing are exactly the same height as the mirrors on my car. It turns out that it’s a Honda CRV, not a Toyota. A long time ago, I bitched about my neighbor’s car: |
